Since 1998, a small group of long-distance motorcycling enthusiasts has
met at the end of May or in early June for dinner in Hyder, Alaska. Hyder
Seek 2009 will mark the event's 11th. 165 riders attended
in 2008.
The original event celebrated the culmination of Ron Ayres' 49-state ride (a record that has since been broken).
Since then, the Iron Butt Association has instituted a somewhat exclusive
"48 States Plus Alaska Award" for riders traveling through all
of the 48 contiguous states plus Alaska. Ron will recognize riders who
culminate a 49-state ride in Hyder in time for the festivities, and he'll
pay for their "Hyderization". Last year, 5 riders celebrated
their arrival in Hyder entitling them to the Iron Butt Association's Award.
You certainly do not have to do the 49-state ride to attend Hyder Seek!
Riders needing an excuse to make their first trip to Alaska, or repeat
Hyderseekers who can't get enough of the beautiful scenery on the way
to Hyder, are most welcome to register for Hyder Seek 2009.
Hyder Seek 2009 will take place on June 5 & 6. The fee is $125 per
person. Your fee includes two dinners, a nice commemorative shirt, and
eligibility for some wonderful door prizes. We're accepting reservations
for up to 200 riders, almost as many slots as there are rooms in all of
Hyder and Stewart, BC. Please secure your lodging early or plan to sleep
with the bears! Registration will open on November 11, 2008. The deadline for registration is April 8, 2009.
