Iron Butt Association This "Extreme" tour is sponsored by the Iron Butt Association. Iron Butt Extreme tours are open to all experienced riders who enjoy spending more time in the saddle than our leisurely Premium Motorcycle Tours afford (or that are available from other tour operators). These special tours are favored by long-distance fans who enjoy traveling with like minded enthusiasts. Click here for additional information on these special tours.

Our 15-Day New Zealand Iron Butt Adventure offers long-distance advocates an extraordinary opportunity to experience virtually ALL of New Zealand while riding with like-minded, high-mileage riders. You'll see the country’s most popular attractions, and enjoy aspects of this fascinating country that most visitors never have the opportunity to experience. In addition to great riding and stunning landscapes, the quality of meals and lodging are in keeping with the high standards that have become an integral part of all of our Premium Motorcycle Tours. Accommodations range from comfortable, middle class hotels to luxury accommodations and “boutique” establishments that are off-the-usual-tourist-path.

The Iron Butt New Zealand Adventure is open to all experienced riders who enjoy spending much more time in the saddle than our Premium Motorcycle Tours afford (or than is available from other tour companies). See the explanation of our Iron Butt "Extreme Tours".

The Adventure begins in Auckland, the North Island's "City of Sails" and ends in Christchurch, New Zealand’s “Garden City" on the South Island. In between, you'll enjoy the following attractions:

  • A ride to Cape Reinga, the norhternmost point in New Zealand.
  • The lovely Coromandel Peninsula
  • Mount Cook (or Aoraki, in the native Maori language) - at 12,300 ft. altitude, the highest mountain in New Zealand. The overnight stay will be at The Hermitage - New Zealand's most famous hotel.
  • A cruise of Milford Sound
  • The volcanoes of Tongariro National Park
  • Queenstown – New Zealand’s outdoor adventure capital located on Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by the breathtaking Remarkables and Eyre Mountains.
  • The opportunity to do a 1,000-mile in 24 hours Iron Butt Saddlesore Ride. This is an optional ride as an alternative to spending a rest day in Queenstown and Te Anau.
  • A ride to Sterling Point - the Southernmost point of the south island.
  • The country's Scottish city of Dunedin - home to New Zealand's only castle - Larnach Castle – one of our preferred accommodations for our visits to Dunedin.

We're sure you'll find that no one does New Zealand like Ayres Adventures, and no one offers such an exciting trip as the New Zealand Iron Butt Adventure!

The map on the left depicts the base route that will be ridden by all riders. The map on the right depicts the optional 1,000-mile day from Queenstown to Te Anau. Riders not wanting to do this optional ride may do local rides from Queenstown or may participate in some of the many "adrenaline" events (jet boats, bungee jumps, paragliding, etc.) offered in Queesnstown - New Zealand's Adventure Capital. The group will reconnect in Te Anau for the ride to Milford Sound where the tour includes a cruise of the sound.
