Day five – rest day in Hiroshima

After the long riding and the tasty Shabu Shabu dinner yesterday (similar to our meat fondue in broth), everybody was happy to sleep in a bit today! However, with the sun out there’s a lot to do in Hiroshima: a speed ferry brought us to the sacred island of Miyashima, one of the three most beautiful sceneries in Japan. The famous “Floating Gate” O-torii is the famous attraction here – together with numerous pagodas, shrines and walkways amidst blooming cherry trees!

After our return to Hiroshima, a walk through the nearby Peace Memorial Park was on the list of the must-do’s: the A-bomb Dome and various other structures and information tables as well as the Peace Memorial Museum are very intense reminders of what should never happen again…

At night we go for another culinary speciality in Hiroshima: Okonomiyaki – a kind of pancake with lots of things on it, which is prepared in front of you. Yummy!
