We took off at 8:30 am and headed for Matsumoto. Leaving Takayama, we could see lots of private homes with beautifully arranged gardens – certainly one of the most characteristic sights in Japan! To reach Matsumoto, we had to cross the Japanese Alps with the help of lots of tunnels. Most passroads were still closed and at our highest point (4,790 ft.) there was still a lot of snow at the side of the road.
Matsumoto’s black Crow Castle is a highlight during cherry blossom and we visited the ground together with many other tourists from all over the world. The express way helped us to (almost) escape from the rain and we even caught a glimpse of Fuji-san, before the clouds covered him! Tomorrow afternoon we will ride a loop around him – the weather is supposed to be beautiful!
The Onsen in our hotel with sauna and hot spa was a great feature to have before another tasty Japanese dinner…
