Really fascinating time in Moscow. Our hotel was within walking distance from the Red Square, the Kremlin, the Bolshoy Theater and many other places of interest. Now off to Suzdal.

Great day touring Moscow. Some surprises.

There is some free speech. See the cartoon in today’s Moscow Times.

There is a cemetery of national heroes, and they are not all politicians. Here are the final resting places of Boris Yeltsin and Nikita Khrushchev, but also Dmitri Shostakovich and Anton Chekhov.

The University of Moscow is quite imposing. I could only get the main building in one shot!

The subway is spotless. No graffiti. The floors are swept with absorbent material. No men wear hats or caps. No one looks like a rapper or gang banger, and no one smells bad. No one wears headsets. They read!

Had lunch in a nice cafe on Red Square. Then entered the Kremlin, and visited Cathedral Square, where the Czars were born, baptized, coronated and buried.

The parting shot is Putin’s office on Thursdays. All in all a pretty cool day!

Moscow is much, much better than I expected.
